Former Argentine Vice President has been arrested, accused of illicit enrichment
Amado Boudou, who had been former Argentine President Cristina Fernandez's vice president, was arrested on Friday. He is now the second major official in her government to face detention, given that Julio De Vido, Fernandez's former planning minister, was also arrested on October 25th.
Police arrested Boudou and who used to be his associate, Jose María Nuñez Carmona, in Buenos Aires for racketeering and money laundering.
Last week, Federal Prosecutor Jorge Di Lello asked Boudou to justify the origin of $80,000, the purchase of an apartment from his ex-girlfriend, the journalist Agustina Kämpfer, and Núñez Carmona´s patrimony.
According to the Prosecutor, "there is inkling of an engineering aimed at obscuring the origin of those funds, which were used to make consumptions, acquire goods and shares and also trying to show a previous economic capacity that justifies the operations carried out".
Boudou has denied wrongdoing in the past. Him and Núñez Carmona are facing trial in Ciccone case. Both are suspected of having kept the bankrupt company through The Old Fund society.
